LYNDEN CHRISTIAN (2-0) AT BLAINE (2-0)
Time: 7 PM Friday
Site: Blaine High School
When Lynden Christian has the ball: Look for the Lyncs to have a balanced attack. Junior quarterback Trajan Schouten has been deadly with his accuracy, and junior running backs Levi Korthuis and Easton Stremler can churn up yards in a hurry. The offensive line has played brilliantly, and is led by senior tackle Dylan Kaemingk. Blaine’s defense already has one shutout in the books, and has faced the Wing-T of Cedar Park Christian. The Borderites swarm to the ball, and are led on defense by senior linebacker Jacob Westfall, junior defensive end Gavino Rodriguez and senior safety Derek Machula.
When Blaine has the ball: The Borderites have been able to move the ball on the ground with junior running back Oscar Caridad. His off-tackle runs have been extremely successful, running behind junior left tackle Wyatt Cole and senior right tackle Connor Ellis. Sophomore quarterback William McKinney led his team down the field against CPC last week, and threw a game-winning touchdown to senior wide receiver Chase Abshere in the waning seconds. The Lycns defense has been, well, a Coach Kaemingk kind of defense. Shutouts the first two weeks, and his players are always in the right place. Senior linebacker Sam Faber is one of the smartest players on the field and senior defensive end Simon Anker has complete control of the edge on his side of the field.
Special Teams are special: Blaine senior kicker Bryce Kamrath has the early lead in kicking points, and has hit on a pair of field goals. Machula returned a kickoff 83 yards for a touchdown in week one. Lynden Christian senior punter Blake DeRuyter is one of the best in the county, and has also hit on a field goal.
Matchup to watch: Lynden Christian offensive tackle Dylan Kaemingk vs. Blaine defensive end Gavino Rodriguez.
