BELLINGHAM (1-2) AT CEDARCREST (2-1)
Time: 7 PM Friday
Site: Cedarcrest High School
When Bellingham has the ball: Ground and pound. The Red Raiders will line up, and run the ball right at you. Last week against Sammamish, Bellingham ran for 410 yards, and became the first team in Whatcom County history to have FOUR players rush for over 90 yards in the same game! Fullback Jack Fields, halfbacks Tim Edwards and Towner Goodman and quarterback Morgan Cavalier all had big days, but it all started with the big guys up front. Offensive linemen Christian Butenschoen, Butch Mullins, Chase Johnson, Julian Donohue and Gage Bell teamed up with tight ends Christ Oesterling, Andre Triplett and Rand Bentley to open up huge holes for the Bellingham rushing attack.
When Cedarcrest has the ball: The Bellingham defense is on a roll after shutting out its first opponent in seven years. They will hope to do it again, this time in a Lake Conference game! Fields is relentless at inside linebacker, with Mullins and Butenschoen creating pressure up front. Senior Spencer Lee played safety last week in his first action of the season following an injury. He is a true playmaker that intercepted four passes last season, returning one of them for a touchdown.
Special Teams are special: Elijah Kongshaug has looked good on his extra points, and been very steady with his punts as well. Ethan Johnson is near the top of the kick returners in Whatcom County and Lee could be the most dynamic punt returner in the county.
Record Breakers: Not only did Bellingham break a record last week by having four players rush for over 90 yards in the same game, they could also use Spencer Lee once he’s 100% healthy. He is the school’s career leader in receiving yards (1485) and receiving touchdowns (15).
