MARYSVILLE-GETCHELL (1-2) AT SQUALICUM (2-1)

Time: 7 PM Saturday

When Marysville-Getchell has the ball: The Chargers will spread you out, and throw short passes all over the field, hoping that one quick move can turn into a big gain. To counter that, the Storm defenders need to be sure tacklers, especially on the perimeter. Linebacker Branden Powers could be out another week, but junior linebacker Collin McEachran has been playing tremendously. Outside linebacker Zach Tucker has been huge as well, and senior safety Declan McGhee has proven to be an amazing play maker on the back end.

When Squalicum has the ball: If Devante Powell is healthy, he could be back in the backfield. But, you can still look for Spencer Lloyd to be the main focal point of the offense. The senior leader has played multiple roles in the offense. He’s leading Whatcom County in rushing and scoring, and he knows how to finish runs. The offensive line is massive with Dominick Mack and Brandon Gimse leading the way. Tucker caught seven passes last week, and is beginning to become a go-to target on the outside.

Special Teams are special: Junior Mason Lloyd is extremely dependable as both a kicker and punter, and his older brother Spencer is an expert at the quick punt from mid-field on fourth-and-short. Powell and Dedrick Mitchell are dangerous in the return game.

School record book: Spencer Lloyd has had a great career, and his numbers are starting to mount up. He’s currently in the Top-10 in Squalicum history for career rushing yards, career passing yards and career scoring.
