LYNDEN (4-0) AT LAKEWOOD (3-1)
Time: 7 PM Friday
Site: Lakewood High School
When Lynden has the ball: The Lions are tremendously balanced, and the offense got the job done in the fourth quarter last week against Archbishop Murphy. Running backs Steven DiLorenzo and Eric Martin-Mann are an awesome 1-2 punch, and James Marsh is a weapon out of the backfield as well from his quarterback spot. Numerous receivers are making a difference. Grant VanderYacht can catch a bubble and take it the distance, as he did last week against ATM on the second play of the game. Kobe Elsner and Brock Heppner are great weapons in the red zone.
When Lakewood has the ball: The Cougars are always tough, and last year they nipped the Lions 26-14. Lakewood will run the ever popular spread offense, which could give Elsner a chance to add to Whatcom County-leading four interceptions on the season. Linebackers Bodie Human and Preston King are working fantastically together, flying around the field and picking up tackle after tackle. Safeties Brendan Kleindel and Martin-Mann combine as perhaps the hardest hitting pair of safeties in Whatcom County.
Hey, I remember watching his dad play: Lynden senior Dakota Baar has made some big plays the past few weeks, already totaling over 100 yards receiving and a touchdown. His dad Chad Baar was an instrumental part of Lynden winning the 1991 state championship. As a 6-foot-8 255-pound tight end he provided a great target. He caught 25 passes for 402 yards and four touchdowns. He was named All-State 1st Team at tight end, and was also All-League 1st Team at tight end, and All-League 2nd Team at defensive line. He was also named All-League 2nd Team at defensive line as a junior.
