MOUNTLAKE TERRACE (2-2) AT SEHOME (2-2)
Time: 7 PM Friday
Site: Civic Stadium
When Mountlake Terrace has the ball: They like to spead the field and wing it around. It was a shoot-out last season when the two played each other to open of the season. The Mariner defense came alive last Friday, and if it can keep up the intesity, you can expect some great things out of Coach Kevin Beason’s crew. Rylie Bair was virtually unblockable in the second half last Friday, and Sehome’s secondary swarms all over the ball. Linebacker Dawson Smith is turning into a tackling machine, and he returned an interception for 30 yards last week. Senior linebacker Andy Waters will play in his first game this Friday, and that will only help.
When Sehome has the ball: Quarterback Jacob Kaepernick has been flingin’ the ball all around the field in 2018. He has a ton of weapons, and if they are all healthy, this could be a huge scoring game for the Mariners. Running back Dylan Roberts has all the traits of a tremendous running back, and he can really do it all. Wide receiver lead the entire county in receptions and touchdown catches, even while battling a hip injury. Michael McClin and Melloy Nelson are deep threats and Austin Roberts, Jay Travier and Tim Malo are quick and shifty.
Hey, I remember watching his dad play: Sehome sophomore Jake Ortega has a bright future with the Mariners as an offensive lineman, and his dad B.J. Ortega was one of the best players for Sehome in the late 80’s. As a junior, he was named All-League 1st Team at center, and All-League 2nd Team at linebacker. He was extremely dominant as a senior, when he was named All-League 1st Team at both center and inside linebacker. He also wore #53, just like Jake does now.
