MOUNT BAKER (3-2) AT NOOKSACK VALLEY (3-2)

Time: 7 PM Friday

Site: Sid Lambert Field

When Mount Baker has the ball: The Mountaineers had a tremendous offensive output last week at Meridian, and they seem to have the train moving down the tracks at the right time. Now with Kaleb Bass as a running threat, it can open up the offense even more. The Kentner brothers provide 6-foot-3 targets for Bass, and the line is playing at it’s best right now. Landon Bruland is a great defensive end that will have to set the edge and be ready for play-action roll outs. Linebacker Cooper Clawson will need to read his assignments, and he could be in on a lot of plays near the line of scrimmage. Evan Neitling has been great at safety, and he can’t let Bass’s big arm get past him.

When Nooksack Valley has the ball: The Pioneers could rely heavily on Austin O’Bryan, as per usual. But, I like what Cole Eldridge brings to the field. He has good size, speed, agility and hands to be dangerous at whichever position he plays. Evan Neitling is like a bolt of lightning with the ball in his hands, and could take any play to the house. Baker will have to tackle well, look to intercept some passes. Sam Barrett, Michael Kentner and Ayden Rodriguez have each intercepted a pair of passes this season.

Statistical Progress: Now that Bass is Mount Baker’s all-time leading passer, how does he stack up against Whatcom County’s all time best? He’s currently 26th all time in passing yards with 3167, and he could reach Trevon Myhre’s yardage mark (3242) while playing against Trevon’s dad tonight. O’Bryan is currently 13th on the Nooksack Valley career rushing list. He’s only six yards behind… yes, you guessed it, Trevon Myhre.
