SQUALICUM (4-1) AT FERNDALE (1-4)

Time: 7 PM Friday

Site: Ferndale High School

When Squalicum has the ball: One might think that it begins with Spencer Lloyd, but the Squalicum offensive line is where it’s at. Dominick Mack and Jackson Campbell have been dominant all season, and they hope to have Brandon Gimse back at tackle for this game. Lloyd is a difference maker, no question, and he’d like to get his revenge on what was the Strom’s toughest game from last season when the Golden Eagles blanked Squalicum 41-0. Branden Powers is back at running back to take pressure off of Lloyd. Ferndale has great size, with huge linebackers and a fast secondary. Darius Washington is a beast inside, and at times can be unblockable.

When Ferndale has the ball: The Golden Eagles played well last week against undefeated Oak Harbor. Gader Fox and Bryan Ebe supply the thunder and lightning to the Ferndale rushing attach. Guard Geirean Hatchett can pull as well as any lineman in Whatcom County history, and he’s on the prowl for pancake blocks. Collin McEachran, Zach Tucker, Ben Schlenbaker and Powers make an awesome quartet at linebacker, and if they all do their jobs individually, it could be a long game for Ferndale.

Statistical Progress: Lloyd is climbing up the school’s career list in three different categories. He’s currently sixth in rushing (1635 yards), sixth in passing (1717 yards) and sixth in scoring (152 points). I’m always excited to watch the Storm game film and watch him do his thing.
