CEDARCREST (3-3) AT BLAINE (2-4)
Time: 7 PM Friday
Site: Borderites Field
When Cedarcrest has the ball: The Red Wolves had trouble moving the ball last week at home against Sehome. Blaine’s defense has been strong for most of the year, but had a little hiccup last week at Mountlake Terrace. Linebacker Hudson Reid will be used in many different ways. He could be rushing the passer, or drop back into coverage. Senior safety Derek Machula will return to give a boost to the Borderites. Sophomore defensive back Seth Blomeen has been impressive.
When Blaine has the ball: It has been a rough year for the Borderite offense. This is the game where it can all turn around. Sophomore quarterback Will McKinney has shown flashes of brilliance, and he could lead Blaine to a huge victory in front of the homecoming crowd. Senior Alex Mercado and junior Oscar Caridad shared the rushing duties last week. Machula’s return should help Chase Abshere emerge to have a big game. Wyatt Cole has been a great offensive tackle.
Historical Matchup Stat: In 2011 Cedarcrest bested the Borderites 35-24. However, Blaine running back Mario Gobbato carried the ball 36 times for 386 yards and four touchdowns.
