MARYSVILLE-PILCHUCK (5-1) AT FERNDALE (1-5)

Time: 7 PM Friday

Site: Ferndale High School

When Marysville-Pilchuck has the ball: The Tomahawks offense can be explosive, and maybe the natural grass can slow it down a bit. The Golden Eagles did a great job of containing Squalicum’s run game last week, and forced the Storm to throw the ball more often. Ferndale has tremendous size up the middle with 285-pound defensive tackle Darius Washington and 230-pound linebacker Uriah Guillory. Defensive back Watiko Leighton is extremely instinctive.

When Ferndale has the ball: Quarterback Sequoyah Julius threw the ball extremely well this week, and the balanced attack could be the key for the Golden Eagles. Gader Fox and Bryan Ebe are going to pick up their yards. Leighton nearly had 100 yards receiving last week, and Taylor Lupo has shown to have great hands as well. Running behind superstar guard Geirean Hatchett will always be a smart choice. The Tomahawks are coached by former Mount Baker defensive back, Brandon Carson.

Historical Matchup Stat: In 1997, Ferndale beat a very good Marysville-Pilchuck team 14-0. It was running back Matthias Wilson who carried the Golden Eagles with 230 yards rushing on 30 attempts and a touchdown on his way to state-record season.
