MOUNT BAKER (4-2) AT LYNDEN CHRISTIAN (5-1)

Time: 7 PM Friday

Site: Lynden Christian High School

When Mount Baker has the ball: The Mountie running game took off last week, when it went over 400 yards. LC coach Dan Kaemingk will find a way to slow it down, but it’s really hard to stop. Baker quarterback Kaleb Bass is the school’s all-time leading passer, and is good to launch a few balls during the game deep to his receivers. Center Braeden Shannon and defensive tackle Dylan Kaemingk should be an awesome match up. Look for running back Jason Lee to have a redemption game against the Lyncs.

When Lynden Christian has the ball: The LC run game was slowed last week, but it’s still a big part of the Lync offense. Levi Korthuis has been a workhorse, and he’s running behind one of the largest offensive lines in the county. Linebacker Jay Allen will need to key in on Korthuis. Whether it’s Trajan Schouten or Bryce Bouwman at quarterback, they will need to contend with the tremendous pass rush of the Kentner brothers from each side.

Historical Matchup Stat: These two teams have been playing each other since Lynden Christian started playing football in the mid-1960’s. The highest rushing output that an LC player has put no Mount Baker was in 1976. The Lyncs beat the Moutaineers 22-8, mostly because of Duane Huisingh who ran for 192 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries. As for Mount Baker, the first two 200-yard plus passing performances in school history both came against the Lyncs. Ironically, they both came against LC teams that would reach the state championship that season. In 1986 it was Jeff Curtis who passed for 213 yards in a double-overtime thriller, and it was in 1993 when Lance Zamzow passed for 209 yards against the Lyncs, with almost all of it coming in the fourth quarter.
