STANWOOD (1-5) AT SQUALICUM (5-1)

Time: 7 PM Friday

Site: Civic Stadium

When Stanwood has the ball: The Spartans have had trouble moving the ball, and the Storm defense is playing it’s best right now. It could spell disaster for Stanwood. Squalicum is clicking at all three levels defensively. Their defense is leading Whatcom County with 12 interceptions. Seniors Ashton Toctocan and Declan McGhee have really come into their own this season, and have each made dynamic plays in the Storm secondary.

When Squalicum has the ball: For most of the season, it has been the Spencer Lloyd show. But, last week Lloyd was forced to go to the air attack, and he was just as efficient. Squalicum can’t fall into the theory that this could be a trap game before playing Oak Harbor next week, and Coach Nick Lucey won’t allow that to happen. Lloyd should become the first player in Whatcom County this season to reach the 1000-yard mark in rushing, and look for receivers Devante Powell and Dedrick Mitchell to have big games.

Historical Matchup Stat: In Squalicum’s inaugural football season of 1998 it lost to Stanwood 21-20, despite the efforts of running back Andy Kammenga who rushed for 176 yards on 27 carries and two touchdowns.
