BLAINE (3-4) AT ANACORTES (0-7)
Time: 7 PM Friday
Site: Seahawk Stadium
When Blaine has the ball: The Borderites have gone back to the power running game, sometimes going with multiple backs and multiple tight ends. They can also split Chase Abshere and Derek Machula out wide when needed, and they have to be accounted for. The offensive line has been bolstered by adding Jacob Westfall at guard. Sophomore quarterback William McKinney has had his ups and down this season, but his overall ability to lead hasn’t been questioned. I expect a big game from him at Anacortes, and even bigger things the next few seasons.
When Anacortes has the ball: The Seahawks have had trouble just filling out a team, and usually have more players on the field than on the sideline. The run a lot of mis-direction plays, and the Blaine defenders will need to depend on each other to do their jobs. Look for Gavino Rodriguez and Wyatt Cole to be disruptive behind the line of scrimmage, perhaps breaking up some double handoffs. If Anacortes decides to air it out, safeties Seth Blomeen and Machula will be ready. Each player already has three interceptions on the season.
Climbing up the school-record list: Chase Abshere has caught 15 touchdown passes in his awesome career, which is good for fourth place in school history. He is only behind former teammate Anthony Ball (27), Todd Bird (20) and Trevor Chau (19).
