LYNDEN CHRISTIAN (5-2) AT NOOKSACK VALLEY (3-4)
Time: 7 PM Friday
Site: Sid Lambert Field
When Lynden Christian has the ball: It’s still unknown to me who will be taking snaps from center, but the Lyncs offense should still remain similar either way. Both Trajan Schouten and Bryce Bouwman are more than capable of leading, and making all the throws. Nobody has carried the ball more than Levi Korthuis this year, and he should get the bulk of the carries. LC’s receivers have been making dynamic plays all season. Nooksack Valley will give up some size up front to LC’s line, but if the Pioneers can use their speed to their advantage, some ultimate play making should take place.
When Nooksack Valley has the ball: It all starts with quarterback Austin O’Bryan. Actually, it starts with center Hayden Hester who has been on point with his shotgun snaps all season. From their, the improvisation of O’Bryan can really cause trouble for the defense. The Lyncs bottled O’Bryan up in the last meeting, holding him to just seven yards rushing. However, it opened up the passing game, where Evan Neitling was the recipient of numerous huge plays. The Lyncs defense is as strong as ever, and it will be fun to see linebacker Davis Gatterman patrol the middle of the field. The match up of Neitling being covered by Jude Veltkamp should also be a fun one to watch.
Climbing up the school-record list: O’Bryan is moving up both the career rushing and passing list. He is currently at ninth in rushing with 1628 yards and 12th in passing with 1424 yards. Only seven players in LC school history have kicked at least three field goals in their career. Blake DeRuyter is currently sitting at two.
