SEHOME (4-3) AT BELLINGHAM (5-2)

Time: 7 PM Friday

Site: Civic Stadium

When Sehome has the ball: The Mariners throw the ball more than any other team in Whatcom County. Quarterback Jacob Kaepernick has been extremely accurate the past few weeks, and his overall grasp of the offense is leading Sehome in the right place at the right time. You can’t forget about Dylan Roberts out of the backfield. His patience, balance and explosion is tough to deal with. Bellingham defensive lineman Butch Mullins is become a force with tackles behind the line of scrimmage. Linebacker Elijah Kongshaug has great size (6’3″ 215), speed and instincts. This will be a great test for the Red Raider secondary, led by Spencer Lee.

When Bellingham has the ball: The Red Raiders run the ball more than any other team in Whatcom County, and why not when you have that offensive line to go along with multiple running backs that all bring something different to the table. Quarterback Morgan Cavalier is also a threat on the ground. He has been carrying out his fakes better as the year has progressed, which has helped the overall running game. The front seven for Sehome will be tested, and I can’t wait to see the match up between Christian Butenschoen and Josh Dentel. Linebackers Dawson Smith and Dylan Roberts will need to play assignment football and stay true, and when Bellingham does decide to throw, you have to be aware of safety Jay Travier and his six interceptions on the season.

Climbing up the school-record list: Bellingham senior wide receiver Spencer Lee is already the school leader in career receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. He is currently second with 92 career receptions, just five behind former teammate Ethan Fields. Sehome running back Dylan Roberts has been a workhorse, and has 284 rushing attempts in his career. Only three players in Sehome history have over 300 rushing attempts. Tyler Simpson – 372, Ladin Langeman – 360 and Titi Lamositele – 325.
