VANCOUVER COLLEGE (6-0) AT LYNDEN (7-0)
Time: 7 PM Friday
Site: Rollie DeKoster Field
When Vancouver College has the ball: The beauty of the Lynden defense is that it’s constructed in such a way that it doesn’t need to change too much depending on the strength of its opponent. It is what it is, and you still have to face it. The defensive ends can rush the passer or drop back in coverage, and the inside backers are extremely active. Defensive lineman Payton Scott takes care of the dirty work in the trenches.
When Lynden has the ball: Everyone is starting to become healthy at the right time. The return of massive left tackle Jacob Kettels was huge last week. Left guard Cooper Brown could be back soon as well. Lynden is loaded at every position and is doing a great job of getting the ball into each of its play maker’s hands. When running back Eric Martin-Mann is on his game, he’s incredibly hard to contain, and it just helps open everything else up.
Climbing up the school-record list: Lynden has had an incredible 22 players in it’s school history catch at least 50 career passes. As of now, the Lions have three more that could be added to that list before the season is done. Kobe Elsner (45), Carson Bode (36) and Grant VanderYacht (34) are all closing in.
