FERNDALE (3-5) AT MEADOWDALE (3-5)

Time: 8 PM Friday

Site: Edmonds District Stadium

When Ferndale has the ball: The Golden Eagles rattled off 482 yards rushing last week, and the offense is clicking better than it has been all season. The return of Jacob Broselle in the wingback spot has really opened up the offense, which allows Gader Fox to get the tough yards up the middle, and Bryan Ebe to pick up big gains off tackle. Quarterback Sequoyah Julius has improved greatly throughout the season at his new position, and has found Watiko Leighton on numerous deep passes. Fox has also emerged as a receiving threat out of the backfield.

When Meadowdale has the ball: The Mavericks have a great quarterback that can really make any throw, and I’m sure that the Golden Eagles were able to scout him well at practice this week, perhaps using Jake Locker as the scout-team QB. The defensive backs will have their hands full, and Leighton could come up huge with his instincts and smooth playing style. Middle linebacker Uriah Guillory had another interception last week, and is great at patrolling the middle of the field. Defensive tackle Darius Washington could make life miserable for Meadowdale’s passing attack.

Player to watch: It’s hard to look past Geirean Hatchett on the football field. When on defense, the opposing teams generally run away from him or have the quarterback roll out away from him. But, when he’s on offense, and he’s pulling from his guard position… it is a site to behold. Look for big #66 to open up some big running lanes down field for the Golden Eagles.
