LYNDEN CHRISTIAN (6-2) AT MERIDIAN (6-2)
Time: 7 PM Thursday
Site: Trojan Stadium
When Lynden Christian has the ball: The Lyncs offense exploded last week with running back Levi Korthuis rushing for 154 yards and two touchdowns while quarterback Trajan Schouten threw for 300 yards and four touchdowns. Everything is clicking for the boys in blue, and with a victory, they can win at least a share of the league championship. Wide receiver Tanner Feenstra has emerged as Whatcom County’s leading receiver. Linebacker Dylan Hickok, Cameron Webster and Cole Roberts will need to be active to contain LC’s multi-leveled attack.
When Meridian has the ball: This will all depend on if Dawson Logan is cleared to play. If he’s able to go, he the main threat on offense. His last game against the Lyncs was so amazing that he was named the WIAA athlete of the week. If he’s unable to go, it should be Hickok under center. Will it be a single-wing look? Or, will Coach Ames open up the playbook and let Hickok fling the ball around? If Hickok is behind center, look for LC’s defense to crowd the line of scrimmage. Defensive ends Simon Anker and Jake Libolt are huge pillars on defense that should be able to contain the edges, and force Hickok and others inside.
Match-up of the game: Meridian guard Adam Kruzich versus Lynden Christian defensive tackle Dylan Kaemingk. Kruzich is back at top form, and couldn’t play against LC in the last meeting. Kaemingk has tremendous strength, and this could be the match-up of the season between interior linemen in the NWC 1A.
