NOOKSACK VALLEY (3-5) AT MOUNT BAKER (5-3)
Time: 7 PM Thursday
Site: Bob Tisdale Field
When Nooksack Valley has the ball: You can expect the Pioneers to use the entire width of the field. Ty Rawls has come on strong during the league schedule as a receiver that can do a little bit of everything. Mount Baker will have to keep an eye on Evan Neitling. 6-foot-3 225-pound tight end Ryan Veening is expected to return, and could give Nooksack Valley a big boost in the passing game. The Mountaineer defense has intercepted 12 passes this season, and the Pioneers will likely air it out.
When Mount Baker has the ball: The Mounties had trouble getting the offense started last Friday against Meridian, and didn’t score a rushing touchdown in the game for the first time since….. I’m looking it up. Baker will try to push the Pioneers around and play power football, but I have a feeling that Bass is really going to air it out in this, this final home game of his career. Linebackers Cooper Clawson and Austin O’Bryan have to play assignment-football and not get thrown off by what the offensive linemen are doing.
Matchup to watch: Mount Baker left tackle Jay Allen vs. Nooksack Valley defensive end Landon Bruland. This should be a great match up that will show the tremendous athleticism that both seniors have. Not just superb athletes for linemen, these two kids are unbelievable talented.
