Saunders

After scoring a pair of runs in the first inning, the Borderites were able to hold on the rest of the way against the Storm to improve to 2-0. Junior Aiden Vezzetti pitched three innings of scoreless baseball to pick up his first win of the season, junior Anden Holley relieved him and got into the seventh before handing off to sophomore Axel Puls who picked up the save after entering the game with the bases loaded and nobody out in the final inning. Puls also went 1-for-1 with a sacrifice fly, a walk, a stolen base and a run scored. Squalicum second baseman Trey Andersen led the Storm offense, going 2-for-2 with a double, a walk, a stolen base and two runs scored.

A pair of senior quarterbacks traded in their football helmets for baseball hats and had quite the pitching duel. Logan Dykstra picked up the win for the Lyncs as he pitched the complete game while allowing just three hits. His counterpart, Jacob Kaepernick, lasted four innings allowing just one hit while striking out eight. The Mariners held a 1-0 lead, but Lynden Christian was able to tie it up in the bottom of the sixth when Cole Moorlag scored Zach Eisenberg on a sacrifice fly, and the Lyncs took the lead later in the inning when Jamison Hintz scored on an error. Hintz’ triple allowed him to be in scoring position for the play.

VanDalen

The Lion offense exploded, scoring in every inning except the second, halting a two-game losing streak. Junior Taivin VanDalen led the way with three hits, including a double, two runs batted in and two runs scored. Sophomore Lincoln VanDiest gave up six hits and one earned run over five innings on the mound to pick up his first win on the season. Bryce Johnson and Logan Sharp each had a pair of hits for the Trojans.

The Red Raiders picked up their first victory on the season, as senior pitcher Manny DePalma got the complete game victory and struck out 11 Pioneers. Offensively, he hit a two-run homerun in the third inning. Catcher Ethan Brimble was a homerun away from hitting for the cycle, while also collecting four runs batted in, two walks and three stolen bases. Center fielder Landon Kerzman continued his hot hitting with two singles and a triple. Nooksack Valley is still searching for it’s first win of the season, and got a pair of hits from Micah Hoffman and Jackson Lackey.

Anacortes 13, Mount Baker 2

West

The Seahawks held a two-run advantage going into the fourth inning, but exploded nine runs in two innings to upend the Mountaineers. Sophomore Brady West’s base hit scored Aidan Corning and Caleb Horsmon in the second inning, but those were the only runs able to be produced by Mount Baker. Junior Davin Beason took the loss on the mound, but did strike out three batters in three innings of work.
