Lynden junior Cade Slayton went 2-for-4 with three runs batted in, including an opposite field homerun, to lead the Lions to victory. Lynden scored all seven of its runs in the third and fourth innings, and Kaeden Hermanutz picked up his first varsity victory on the mound. The sophomore pitcher tossed three innings of no-hit ball while striking out two and walking two. Carter VanDiest collected two hits, and Isaac Vander Veen had two RBI’s. Sehome senior Brooks Frere had two hits for the Mariners, including knocking in Jacob Moore.

Golden Eagle first baseman Landen Hatchett drove in six runs, and went 3-for-4 with a double as Ferndale started out the season on the right foot. The Golden Eagles took the lead in the second inning when Hatchett’s bases loaded single to center field drove in Jake Mason and Dylan Strom. A sacrifice fly by Carson Peters scored Slater Whitaker two batters later, and Ferndale held onto the lead after that. Squalicum senior catcher Trent Miller knocked in two runs for the Storm.

Senior pitcher Marques Brown pitched into the sixth inning, and struck out 10 batters, to pick up the win for the Mountaineers. After trailing 1-0, Mount Baker put up three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, and one in the fifth. The Mountaineers also put across two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning when junior shortstop Tyler Kentner’s double scored Tucker Davis and Ethan Larson. Larson doubled earlier in the inning and also picked up his first varsity save.

The Seahawks scored five runs in the second inning, and scored a run in each of the next two innings as they held on to beat the Lyncs. Senior Cole Moorlag took the loss for Lynden Christian, but was able to reach base three times offensively. Isaac Paxton led the Lyncs with two runs batted in, and LC also got hits from Shale Whittern, Lane Dykstra and Brody Bouwman. Senior pitcher Luke Johnson threw two innings to end the game, while not allowing an earned run and striking out three.

Sedro Woolley 13, Nooksack Valley 3

A 5-run second inning and a 7-run seventh inning were back breakers for the Pioneers as they couldn’t get their offense going against the Cubs. Nooksack Valley scored all of its three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Sophomore right fielder Jackson Lackey was hit by a pitch, and senior Jeff Boykin followed that up with a single. Junior Joel Hofford pinch ran for Boykin, and after a flyout to the catcher, freshman Kasey Newton’s single scored Lackey. Hofford and Newton scored on an errant throw after a Jake Tresselt grounder.
