LYNDEN 3, LYNDEN CHRISTIAN 1
After the Lyncs won the first set 25-20, the Lions roared back to take the next three, 25-18, 25-16 and 25-23 in front of one of the loudest crowds of the year in the Jake Maberry Gymnasium. Sophomore outside hitter Ashley Shumate tallied a career-high 24 kills, while fellow sophomore Haylee Koetje poured in 10 kills and 14 digs. Junior Lucy White had another big serving night with four aces, and she also had a career-high 14 digs. Senior Mia Apps and sophomore Mya VanderYacht had 12 digs and seven digs, respectively, while Joslyn Sipma and Kayla DeJong were strong in the middle, totaling 11 kills and two blocks. Sophomore setter Grace Rice had an incredible 42 assists.
NOOKSACK VALLEY 3, MOUNT BAKER 1
The Pioneers got off to a hot start, winning the first set 25-15. They jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the second set, but the Mountaineers battled all the way back to take the second set 29-27. Nooksack Valley rallied to take the third set 25-16, and the fourth set was extremely close throughout, but eventually the Pioneers pulled it out 25-21 to take the victory. Junior Taylor Lentz had a team-high 11 kills and three blocks, while sophomore Lainey Kimball supplied 10 kills, 20 digs and three aces. Hallie Kamphouse added a double-double of her own with 10 kills and 18 digs, Ellie Van Berkum dug out 22 and Devin Coppinger supplied 31 assists. For Mount Baker, Rylee Ross had 10 kills and 18 digs, and Grace LaVergne totaled six aces, five kills and 18 digs. Freshman Annalee Cohn was pulled up from the JV squad to replace senior Trinity Anderson, who was out with an injury, and she had nine kills. Taite Reardon and Ashlynn Cloninger led defensively, with Reardon’s three blocks and Cloninger’s 19 digs.
MERIDIAN 3, BURLINGTON-EDISON 1
After winning the first set 25-19, the Trojans lost the second in a close 23-25 set. Tied 1-1, the pivotal third set saw Meridian down by nine, but come back to win 25-23. The Trojans used that momentum to beat an incredible Tiger team 25-21 to take the match, and remain undefeated. Sophomore Emry Claeys had a career-high 12 kills, and senior Skyleigh James added six kills while hitting .308. Senior Jolena Hoefer put forth another double-double, this time with 14 kills and 15 digs. Senior Finnley Claeys had a great overall match with 20 digs, eight kills and two aces, and junior Avery Neal kept up her stellar defensive play with 23 digs. Senior Malaysia Smith ran the offense with 41 assists while adding six kills and 10 digs of her own.
FERNDALE 3, BLAINE 0
The Golden Eagles were in top flight as they defeated the Borderites, 25-10, 25-3 and 25-11. As a team, Ferndale served up 20 aces, with senior Kaelee Bungard leading the way with eight. An overall .387 hitting percentage went a long way, and Bungard led with 11 kills. Junior Brooklyn Cagle kept up her superb passing skills with 37 assists, while Alyvia Semu (seven kills) and Avery Schneider (six kills) had strong offensive outputs.
