The Borderites got behind early, and clawed their way back multiple times, but left too many runners in scoring position as their season ultimately ended with the loss. Senior Jaxon Kortlever scored his second run of the game in the fifth inning when sophomore Hunter Vezzetti hit a sacrifice fly to left field. Junior Axel Puls then reached base for the third time in the game, and stole his third base of the game which set up a deep triple to center field by senior Aiden Holley. The Lions had their five-game winning streak snapped in the District Championship Game in eight innings against the Wildcats. Lynden got on top early when Duke Ohligschlager’s line drive double scored Coston Parcher in the first inning. The Lions held the 1-0 lead up until the top of the fifth when Archbishop Murphy tied it up. Case Zweegman scored in the bottom of the sixth on a base hit from Isaac Vander Veen to take a 2-1 lead. The Wildcats scored three in the top of the seventh, but the resiliency of the Lynden baseball team led to two more runs in the bottom of the seventh, this time on an error after Ohligschlager put down a bunt. The mishap in the field allowed Parcher and Ryan Kleindel to score and send the game into extra innings. The Wildcats scored again, and the Lions had a good chance once again after Parcher nailed his second triple of the game, but was left stranded at third base. Lynden will continue its season on Saturday in the regional round of the state tournament on Saturday at Davis High School in Yakima as the Lions will face Enumclaw at 10:00 AM.
