Overlake 4, Meridian 2
In a battle between two aces, senior Bryce Johnson got the short end of the deal, but still pitched well. He went the complete game, and allowed seven hits while striking out eight, but the Growls had key hits with runners in scoring position late in the game. Centerfielder Jonah Aase had three hits, including a double as the Trojans were knocked into the consolation round.
L: Johnson (2-5)
MER: Aase 3-4, 2B; Johnson 2-3, R, SB; Brooks 1-3, R.
University Prep 6, Blaine 0
It seemed like if it could go wrong for the Borderites in this game, it certainly did. Mental mistakes and baserunning errors bruised the border town ballers early, and the Pumas took advantage. Second baseman Jaxon Kortlever and catcher Danny Michaud each had a pair of hits, but it just wasn’t meant to be in the first round for Blaine.
L: An. Holley (3-3)
BLA: Kortlever 2-3; Michaud 2-3; Puls 1-3; An. Holley 1-3; A. Vezzetti 1-2.
South Whidbey 3, Lynden Christian 0
At Joe Martin Field, the Lyncs weren’t able to get their offense going against the Falcons, and managed just a pair of hits. Junior Lane Dykstra pitched well, going the complete game without walking anybody, but South Whidbey made quick work of LC. The loss created a logjam of Whatcom County teams in the consolation side of the bracket.
L: Dykstra (1-3)
LC: Terpstra 1-3; Zylstra 1-3.
Meridian 7, King’s 0
The Trojans bounced back in the afternoon, and Aase made quick work of the Knights. The freshman southpaw became the first Whatcom County player to reach seven wins on the season as he diced through the King’s lineup, and gave up just five hits in a shutout performance. He also scored two runs to help his cause, and junior second baseman Hunter Jones led offensively with two runs batted in. The win guaranteed another week of baseball for Meridian, and the Trojans will be back in action on Saturday at 1:00 against South Whidbey at Joe Martin Field.
W: Aase (7-2)
MER: Aase 1-2, 2B, 2 R, 2 SB, BB, HBP; Johnson 2-3, 2B, R, SB, IBB; Fyfe 1-4, RBI; Jones 2-4, 2 RBI, R, 2 SB; Brooks 1-3.
Blaine 13, Lynden Christian 3
The Borderites took out their frustration in the second round of the district tournament, and played what appeared to be one of their most complete games of the season. And, speaking of complete games, senior Aiden Vezzetti went the distance to pick up his fifth win of the season. Blaine got hot early, and had the bases loaded after just three pitches. The Borderites scored four in the first, one in the third, three in the fourth and three in the fifth. Kortlever continued to swing a hot bat on the day, going 3-for-5 with a double, and sophomore left fielder Hunter Vezzetti knocked in four runs. The loss ended the season for the Lyncs, and the Borderites will play again on Saturday at 1:00 as Sehome High School against Overlake.

Senior shortstop Cade Slayton knocked a three-run homerun against the Red Wolves to put the Lions into the second round of the District Tournament. Lynden will face Burlington-Edison on Tuesday at 6:00 at Daniels Field. The Lions defeated the Tigers 7-0 on April 19th. No other details were given at this time.
Burlington-Edison 5, Squalicum 1
The Strom and the Tigers were neck and neck for a while, but with Burlington-Edison already holding a slim two-run lead in the bottom of the sixth, a three-run inning blew the doors off. Junior pitcher Elijah Knowlton struck out five in nearly six innings of work, and senior Connor Brueske had two hits to lead his team. Squalicum will try to keep its season alive on Wednesday when they face Cedarcrest at 6:00 on Tuesday at Volunteer Park in Anacortes in a loser-out contest.
