Sehome 4, Blaine 3

In what was probably the game of the year so far this season in Whatcom County, the Mariners outlasted the Borderites after 11 innings of thrilling baseball. It was Sehome’s fourth victory of the year, and the third extra inning win of the season. In the previous two (against Bellingham and Mount Baker), it was junior pitcher Jacob Gillig who pitched brilliantly until hitting the pitch count limit, and then junior Ben Sefrit took over and ultimately pick up the victory in relief. The same formula worked again, as Sefrit picked up his third victory of the season. Gillig pitched into the ninth inning before hitting his pitch count limit, and he gave up just four hits while striking out six. Borderite senior Anden Holley matched him throughout, going six and two thirds of an inning, allowing just three hits and striking out 10. Carson Neff‘s line drive single to left field in the bottom of the 11th inning scored Aiden Harwick-Koolen, who had walked and stole second base, to get the walk-off win. Neff had another huge game with four hits, two runs batted in, and three stolen bases.

The Mountaineers scored four runs in the final two innings, but the comeback ultimately fell short against the Wildcats. Ethan Rutledge-Jones’ double in the top of the fourth drive in Bennett DeLange, but that would be the only run that the Pioneers were able to score against the Seahawks in the battle of purple.

L: Rutledge-Jones (0-2)

NV: Olney 1-3, Tresselt 1-3; DeLange 1-2, R; Rutledge-Jones 1-2, 2B, RBI; Triplett 1-2, SB, Martin 1-2.
