Meridian 10, Friday Harbor 5

The Trojans jumped ahead of the Wolverines with a 7-2 lead after two innings, but once Friday Harbor loaded the bases with nobody out in the fifth inning, and walked in a run, Meridian brought in Bryce Johnson from centerfield. The 6-foot-2 senior gave up a single that scored a pair of runs, but promptly took control and earned a three-inning save while striking out eight batters. He also went 2-for-3 at the plate. Sophomore catcher Ian Forbes and senior shortstop Daniel Short each also collected two hits.

Mount Baker 8, Sultan 0

The Mountaineers made history on Wednesday night when sophomore Braven Nason and junior Brady West combined for a no-hitter against the Turks. Nason started the game, and threw three innings while striking out seven, and West pitched four perfect innings while striking out five and he became the first pitcher in this young season to pick up his second victory. Offensively, sophomore first baseman Jesse Harward had two hits, and scored two runs, while sophomore Hayden Rosse knocked in two runs and junior Drake Pinkey had three runs batted in.

Lynden Christian 2, Coupeville 1

In a low scoring game, it was the Lyncs that were able to obtain the walk-off win when Logan Brink scored on a ball hit by Lane Dykstra to the third baseman, who’s error ended the contest in the bottom of the seventh. Freshman Austin Engels had a huge game, going 3-for-3 at the plate, including a double and a run scored in the second inning. He also got the victory on the mound, as he pitched the final two innings.

Granite Falls 9, Nooksack Valley 1

The Pioneers dropped their home opener, as they are still looking for their first win of the season. Junior Bennett DeLange pitched four innings, and gave up just one earned run, but ultimately took the loss. He also led Nooksack Valley offensively with two hits, a double and a run batted in. Sophomore Kasey Newton also had a hit, and pitched two scoreless innings in relief while striking out five.

Arlington 5, Squalicum 3

The Eagles took an early 3-run lead, and the Storm tied it up at three in the bottom of the fifth when senior Connor Brueske doubled in fellow senior Joziah McCloud. Arlington then went on to score a pair of runs in the top of the seventh, and Squalicum couldn’t get on the board in the bottom of the inning. Brueske nearly pitched a complete game, striking out five while allowing just two hits.

Stanwood 3, Ferndale 1

Defensive miscues allowed the Spartans to get on the board in the mid innings, and the pitching was too much for the Golden Eagles to handle the rest of the way. Ferndale junior Dylan Strom had an impressive season debut on the mound, striking out 13 batters in six innings, while allowing just one hit. Junior catcher Landen Hatchett led the way offensively with a pair of hits.
