Ferndale 4, Burlington-Edison 0

Junior pitcher Jake Mason closed out his season in dominant fashion, as he tossed a one-hit shutout over the Tigers while striking out 11 batters. He also went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead offensively. Junior Landen Hatchett went 1-for-3, and ended the regular season by nearly capturing the triple crown. He led the county in homeruns and runs batted in, and was second in batting average, just 10 points behind Lynden’s Duke Ohligschlager.

Cedarcrest 1, Sehome 0

The Mariners were ousted from the district playoffs, despite another wonderful pitching performance by junior Jacob Gillig. The junior ace struck out six, and allowed just five hits while pitching the complete game for Sehome. The Mariners’ best chance was in the bottom of the third inning when they had the bases loaded with two outs, but couldn’t convert. Sophomore second baseman Blake Robbins led with a pair of hits.

King’s 7, Nooksack Valley 3

It was the end of the road for the Pioneers, who couldn’t climb all the way back against the Knights who commanded an early 6-0 lead. Sophomore righty Kasey Newton pitched the final four innings, and allowed just two hits. In fact, Newton came on extremely strong in his final three appearances of the season, allowing just two hits in 12 and a third innings. Senior catcher Nick Dykstra led offensively with two hits.

Lakewood 8, Bellingham 3

The Cougars scored all eight of their runs in the fourth inning, which included two triples and a homerun, and the Bayhawks couldn’t overcome the deficit. Following the fourth-inning homerun by Lakewood, Bellingham sophomore pitcher Owen Rasmussen retired the final 10 Lakewood batters in a row.
