THE FEATURED FOUR
John Stremler – Junior – Guard/Defensive End
His improvement each season has been huge, and it’s hard to believe how much better he can still get. A monster in the weight room, and he’s put on another 30-40 pounds of muscle from last season. Still has the speed to drop back in coverage like he did last season. The runner-up last season for Whatcom County Sophomore of the Year, there are some big things coming his way.
Joey Brown – Junior – Quarterback
The most overall gifted quarterback in Whatcom County. He has all the tools to have a great season. Houdini in the pocket, his ability to feel the rush and escape it is impressive. Already the fastest player on the team, so always a threat to take off and run. His play at quarterback will determine how far the Pioneers go this season.
Cory Olney – Sophomore – Wide Receiver/Safety
Not afraid of the big moment, and was relied on to do a lot of stuff early and often last season as a freshman. The experience will only help, and the Pioneers will look for ways to get him the ball often. Has tremendous range as a free safety, is dangerous in the return game. Hard to believe he’s just a sophomore.
Colton Lentz – Sophomore – Running Back/Safety
Every time I see him, it looks like he’s a few inches taller and has gained another 10-15 pounds of muscle. He’s definitely not the ball-boy that I saw a few years ago on the sidelines. A power runner that has the ability to run away from opponents as well. A chip off the ol’ block. His dad ran for an 80-yard touchdown on his first carry of his sophomore year, we’ll see what Colton does on that first carry in this, his sophomore season.
Who will be Nooksack Valley’s break out player?
Brady Ackerman – Sophomore – Tackle/Defensive End
An impressive overall athlete that was one of the leagues top scorers and rebounders last basketball season, as a freshman. As he continues to fill out, he will continue to dominate from his left tackle position. Great feet, and hands, which will allow him to get the best of his opponents as well when he’s playing defense.
