The Pioneers jumped out to an early 6-1 lead after junior center fielder Eduardo Cerda crushed a three-run homerun over the left field fence in the fourth inning, and eventually held on for the victory. Freshman fireballer Evan Brown picked up his first varsity victory on the mound. The Mountaineers threatened late when a 3-run triple by Brady West in the sixth closed the gap to 9-4, and Baker scored three more in the bottom of the seventh but left the bases loaded as Nooksack Valley secured the victory.

Meridian 3, Sedro-Woolley 1

In June of 1938, Cincinnati Reds left-handed pitcher Johnny Vander Meer did the impossible. He threw a no-hitter in back-to-back games, a feat that hasn’t been duplicated in the Major Leagues before or since. Sophomore Jonah Aase replicated that feat on Monday when he threw his second consecutive no-hitter, this time striking out 13 batters. The Trojan offense was led by the two RBI’s of Jaeger Fyfe and the two base hits by Blake Johnson.

The Golden Eagles suffered their first loss of the season when the Seahawks broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single. It was just the second loss of Jake Mason’s career, although he did strike out seven batters and allow just two hits. The 6-foot-3 240-pound senior also slugged two doubles to extend his Whatcom County lead to seven on the season. Junior first baseman Camden Raymond also had two hits, including a double and two runs batted in.
