Mountaineer junior Daniel Washburn and Storm sophomore Ben Hebert matched each other masterfully for the first five innings, each giving up just one run and a total of seven hits between them. Hebert began the bottom of the sixth by walking Braven Nason, and was replaced on the mound by Josh Kreta who nearly picked off the speedy Nason at first base. Kreta then got Elijah Washburn to pop out. Nason then stole second base, but Kreta was able to strike Braeden Scott out. Then, with two outs, Tyson Rightmire singled into centerfield to score Nason from second base for the eventual game winner.
