  • Meridian 88, Mount Baker 64

It was a high-scoring affair between the Trojans and Mountaineers from the start with the first quarter ending 20-14 in favor of Meridian. The Trojan’s powerful offense racked up at least 20 points a quarter and expanded their lead over the Mountaineers progressively through each period.

At the forefront of the Meridian offense was junior guard Jaeger Fyfe, who recorded 19 points in the first half and another 14 in the third quarter. Fyfe totaled 35 points on the night. Junior guard Talon Jenkins accounted for another 19 points and freshman post Nate Payne added 14 points.

The Mountaineers’ scoring efforts were led by freshman Kell Reardon with 14 points; sophomore Carter Hill with 11 points, and sophomore Jordan Bailey with 10 points.

Senior guard Bhavnoor Grewal scored nine points, and junior Jonah Brillowsky finished with eight points and seven boards.

  • Nooksack Valley 60, Blaine 59

The Borderites jumped out to a 30-24 lead at halftime, but a 24-11 surge by the Pioneers set up a nail-biting fourth quarter that was eventually taken by Nooksack Valley.

Pioneer sophomore Cole Coppinger came off the bench to have his biggest game of the year as he shot 8-for-13 from the floor and 3-of-3 from the line to finish with a team-high 22 points. He also grabbed six rebounds and had a team-high five assists.

Junior center Brady Ackerman had a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards, and junior point guard Caden Heutink finished with 10 points and five assists.

The Nooksack Valley win spoiled the dynamic performance by Blaine senior guard Justin Minjarez who scored 24 points, which included six three-pointers.

  • Lynden 58, Sedro-Woolley 32

The Lion defense took center stage as Lynden denied the Cubs from the scoring column until the second quarter, and the Lynden defense held Sedro-Woolley to just 28% shooting on the night.

Senior guard Anthony Canales led the Lions with 18 points and seven rebounds on 8-of-12 shooting from the floor.

Centers Jack Stapleton and Ty Holleman combined for 17 rebounds, and senior guard Weston VanDalen came off the bench to knock down a trio of three-pointers and score 13 points.

  • Archbishop Murphy 57, Squalicum 55

The Storm got off to a hot start, knocking down their first five shots, and nine of their first 12 attempts.

Squalicum also led 31-23 at the half, but the Wildcats used a barrage of deep balls to get back in the game, and ultimately take the lead in the third quarter.

The Storm were down 51-42 with 4:48 left in the game, but they started to make a comeback after junior guard Marcus Nixon knocked down a pair of free throws, which was followed by a steal and layup by sophomore Zach Watt.

Moments later Watt drilled a 3-point shot to cut the lead to just two points with 3:54 left in the game.

It was close from there on out, and when junior forward Jaxon Hofer found Nixon cutting into the lane, Nixon scored from a few feet out and tied the game at 55-55 with 23.5 seconds left.

The Wildcats were able to pull the game out with a layup in the waning seconds.

Nixon finished with 19 points, eight rebounds and four steals while shooting 6-for-9.
