THURSDAY – 12/28

  • Lynden 58, White River 47

The Lions used an even attack to roar out to a 20-12 lead after the first quarter, and carried a 30-24 advantage into halftime.

Lynden never wavered, and held on the entire game to get the victory with freshman guard Finley Parcher leading the way with her 18 points.

Sophomore forward Payton Mills added 15 points, eight of which she scored in the first quarter.

  • Lynden Christian 42, Inglemoor 30

A 16-5 advantage by the Lyncs in the first quarter ended up being the difference, as Lynden Christian stayed the course and won by 12 points.

Sophomore guard Ella Fritts scored 13 points to lead the Lyncs, while junior forward Allison Shumate had 10 points and seven rebounds.

Senior forward Tabby DeJong tied a Lynden Christmas Classic record as well when she pulled down 13 rebounds in the contest, which went along with her eight points and two steals.

FRIDAY – 12/29

  • Lynden 64, Prosser 35

The Mustangs came into the contest unbeaten on the season, but the Lions played their kind of game; fast, with defensive intensity, and with a team-purpose.

Constantly passing until the open shot presented itself, Lynden got numerous players involved, and on this night it was senior Haylee Koetje that was the main beneficiary as she led her team with 21 points.

Mills scored 15 points for the second night in a row, while guards Mallary Villars and Parcher reached double-digits in scoring with 10 points each.

  • Snohomish 52, Lynden Christian 38

The Lyncs were not as fortunate in the semifinal round against the 3A Panthers.

Lynden Christian went cold in the second quarter, and Snohomish took advantage by going on a 15-4 run just before halftime.

Fritts and Shumate each scored 11 points to lead the Lyncs, but LC shot just 2-of-18 from beyond the arc.

Both three-pointers were made by junior guard Danya Dykstra.

SATURDAY – 12/30

  • Lynden 51, Snohomish 29

In the tournament championship game, the Lions made sure that the game was never in doubt as their lead expanded early on to double-digits, and they never looked back.

Junior guard Kiki York, who is known throughout the county as one of the league’s top one-on-one defenders, did more than her part on the offensive side of the ball and ended up leading Lynden with 11 points.

Mills scored 10 points, her third game in a row in double-digits, and was named the Tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

It’s pretty safe to say that the Lions are going to put a scare into some teams once the postseason rolls around.

  • Lynden Christian 48, Prosser 42

In somewhat of an upset, the Lyncs still showed that they had something left in the tank on the third day of the tournament by beating the Mustangs, who came into the tournament as one of the best 2A teams in the state.

Fritts led Lynden Christian in scoring for the third day in a row, this time with her tournament-high of 16 points.

As compared to seasons in the recent past, the Lyncs have struggled a little bit this year, but you can bet that they are rapidly improving and will be the team that we are all used to very soon.
