2023 Girls Basketball Roundup – December 13th

• Bellingham 34, Friday Harbor 27

After an evenly played first half, the Bayhawks outscored the Wolverines 13-4 in the third quarter to take control and take the victory on the road.

Sophomore forward Mary Lockhart led the way with 14 points and seven rebounds, and junior guard Malia Hanks added 12 points, six steals and three assists.

Sophomore guard Avery Manning finished with three assists and two steals while freshman forward Merritt Jensen grabbed six rebounds and two steals.

• Lakewood 45, Blaine 28

The shooting woes continued for the Borderites who lost the conference matchup to the Cougars at home.

Blaine shot 5-of-15 from the foul line and was down 23-11 at the half.

Senior forward Jordyn Vezzetti scored 10 of her team-high 14 points in the fourth quarter alone, as it was also 10 of her team’s 15 points of the period.

Freshman Teia Dube scored eight points, and senior Deja Dube contributed with five.

• Nooksack Valley 76, Oak Harbor 23

The Pioneers got off to a fast start, thank to an opportunistic defense that led to dynamic steals and easy buckets on the other end.

Nooksack Valley led 24-5 after the first quarter, and went into the locker room with a 43-11 lead at the half.

Every Pioneer athlete played at least 14 minutes, and they all had a huge impact on the game.

Senior guard Devin Coppinger scored 22 points, while also totaling eight rebounds, seven assists and four steals, all of which were team leads.

Senior forward Lainey Kimball was 8-of-10 from the floor for 17 points, and sophomore guard Payton Bartl came off the bench to score 10 points.
