  • Lynden 69, Lakewood 20

The Lions led 19-11 after the first quarter, but then outscored the Cougars 32-0 in the second quarter before cruising to their fifth win in a row to open the season.

Senior Haylee Koetje led all scorers with 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting. She also handed out a team-high five assists.

Lynden was very disruptive in the passing lanes all game, and came away with 20 steals which led to many fast break opportunities. Freshman Finley Parcher led in steals with five.

Senior point guard Mallary Villars was perfect on the night, hitting both of her deep balls and she was 6-of-6 from the charity stripe. Junior Kiki York also scored 10 points for the Lions.

  • Ferndale 53, Squalicum 34

The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 19-6 lead after the first quarter, and never looked back as they picked up the road victory.

Senior Mallory Butenschoen hit three 3-pointers on her way to 17 points, while also collecting 11 rebounds. Sophomore forward Jillea Fox finished with 13 points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Ferndale sophomore guard Kayla Washington scored 11 points.

The Storm were led by Mari Binning and Makayla Heaton who each scored nine points. Heaton also had seven rebounds, as did her teammate Loretta Murphy-Kangas.

  • Sehome 45, Meridian 35

The game was tied after the first quarter, and remained even at halftime. But, a 17-9 advantage by Sehome on the third quarter proved pivotal in the Mariner win.

Sehome senior guard Emmy Hart led her team with 15 points, including three 3-pointers along the way.

Senior forward Natalie Brewer scored all 10 of her points in the second half, including eight of them in the big third quarter push.

The Trojans were led in scoring by seniors Savannah Storgaard and Allie Richter, who each finished with 10 points.

  • Blaine 58, Cascade (Everett) 23

The Borderites caught fire early on and led 20-3 after the first quarter. Pressure defense and terrific rebounding carried them the rest of the way to their third victory in a row to begin the season.

Blaine hauled in 55 rebounds as a team with senior Deja Dube leading the way with 14 of them. Senior Jordyn Vezzetti grabbed 12 rebounds and freshman Teia Dube had 11 rebounds, while leading the way in the scoring column with 19 points.

Vezzetti also had a double-double with her 16 points, and senior Amelia Berkely scored 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting.

Alia Ball also had a terrific outing with eight points, six rebounds and six assists.
