The Mountaineers got off to an incredible start with seven steals in the first quarter, which led to quick transitions and some easy buckets. Baker finished with 19 total steals on the night, and outrebounded the Wolves 39-31.

Sophomore Natalie VanLiew shot 9-of-17 from the field, and led her team with 23 points, four 3-pointers and three assists.

Freshman forward Violet Fox had a strong varsity debut with 10 points, nine rebounds and a team-high five steals, and senior Jenna Wineinger was strong inside with nine rebounds and two blocked shots.

 

  • Nooksack Valley 65, Kentwood 49

The Pioneers tipped off their campaign with a strong win over 4A Kentwood on the road last night.

Nooksack Valley jumped out to a 22-13 lead after one quarter, and led 37-21 at the half. Senior guard Devin Coppinger led the charge with 25 points, which included a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter.

Seniors Kaylee Anderson and Lainey Kimball each poured in 11 points for the Pioneers, while senior Tana Hoekema and sophomore Payton Bartl scored eight points each.

Nooksack Valley connected on nine 3-pointers on the night.
