THURSDAY – 12/28

  • Blaine 47, Overlake 42

The Borderites held a somewhat comfortable 30-17 lead at halftime, but the Owls outscored Blaine 17-1 in the third quarter to take a 34-31 lead entering the fourth.

And, when Borderite senior forward Jordyn Vezzetti fouled out in the beginning of the final period, it didn’t look good for Blaine.

But, the Borderites continued to fight on in the fourth quarter and when freshman guard Marcella Bring came off the bench and hit a pair of jumpers from the left elbow, it propelled Blaine back into the game, and eventually win it.

Senior guard Deja Dube had a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds, and senior guard Alia Ball had her best game of the season to that point as she finished with 11 points, seven boards, four assists and two steals.

  • Squalicum 48, Bellevue Christian 43

The Storm survived a strong comeback from the Vikings in the fourth quarter to secure the first round win.

Senior guard Mari Binning scored 13 points while also totaling five steals, four rebounds and four assists to lead her team.

Senior guard Makayla Heaton had 11 points, six rebounds and four steals, while junior forward Loretta Murphy-Kangas finished with 10 points and seven rebounds.

  • Stanwood 33, Meridian 23

After an evenly played first quarter, the Spartans began to separate from the Trojans in the second quarter, and didn’t stop.

Junior point guard Brooklyn Fuller led Meridian with seven points and two rebounds, and sophomore guard Kinsley Neal made a pair of three-pointers to finish with six points.

Senior Malia McCauley led the team with nine rebounds.

 

FRIDAY – 12/29

  • Squalicum 55, Blaine 33

Pressure defense was the name of the game for the Storm, who jumped out to a 31-7 lead at halftime in the semifinal matchup.

Binning again lead in thefts with six of them, which also transitioned into easy scoring opportunities. She also ended up leading with 18 points and six assists.

Senior forward Caitlyn Richardson shot 4-of-7 from the floor for eight points, and she also grabbed seven rebounds while Murphy-Kangas pulled down 12 boards.

The Borderites were led by Vezzetti who finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

  • Meridian 46, Overlake 16

The Owls were simply no match for the Trojans who jumped out ahead early and kept the pedal down.

Freshman guard Eden Bernardy came off the bench to lead Meridian with 14 points and six rebounds on 4-of-5 shooting from the field. She also made foul shots.

Every other player on the roster got into the scoring column pretty evenly, with McCauley leading in rebounds with seven and sophomore forward Taya Benson grabbing six boards.

 

SATURDAY – 12/30

  • Squalicum 43, Stanwood 38

In the tournament championship game the Storm went on a 14-4 run in the second quarter that proved to be a must have for Squalicum as it fended off a strong Spartan comeback in the fourth quarter.

Freshman forward Addison Kettman came off the bench to lead the Storm with 10 points, six rebounds and three steals.

Binning and Heaton each hit a three-pointer and combined for 15 points, while Binning also totaled five assists, four steals and four rebounds.

Murphy-Kangas finished with eight rebounds and six points.

  • Blaine 52, Friday Harbor 26

The Borderites looked strong throughout the game, and never let go of their early lead against the Wolverines. In fact, it was a very even game in both halves with Blaine outscoring Friday Harbor 26-13 in each of them.

Vezzetti led with 19 points, and she also finished with six rebounds and four steals.

Senior Amelia Berkeley had team-highs with nine rebounds and five assists, while senior Deja Dube had nine points, six rebounds, six steals and four assists.

  • Bellevue Christian 54, Meridian 33

The Vikings got up big early on, and led 30-10 at halftime.

The Trojans outscored Bellevue Christian 16-8 in the fourth, but the eventual result was in little doubt.

Bernardy kept her hot shooting alive and scored 12 points to lead Meridian.

McCauley finished with nine points and five rebounds, and Neal ended with eight points.
