NOOKSACK VALLEY 3, FERNDALE 1
After losing quite handedly by a score of 25-7 in the first set, the Pioneers came back in the second set to defeat the Golden Eagles 26-24. They then completed the next two sets with wins over Ferndale 25-23 and 25-18.
“The girls had a great response after a very lopsided set one,” Nooksack Valley coach Katie Emmons said. “We could have laid down in the hole that we dugs ourselves, but we dusted ourselves off and fought back.”
Senior Lainey Kimball led her team in kills (15), digs (18), aces (3) and blocks (4). Senior Juliana Gimmaka added 14 digs, while sophomore Payton Bartl had 27 assists and 10 digs. Senior Tana Hoekema added 10 kills, eight digs and three blocks, while sophomore Grace DeHoog had seven kills and a block.
The Golden Eagles were led up front by seniors Tia Gilday who had 10 kills and four blocks, and Mallory Butenschoen who registered seven kills, 11 digs and four aces.
Freshman Brooklyn Larrabee served up 10 aces to go with her 25 assists, and sophomore Katrina Ferry dug out 20 and had three aces.
SEHOME 3, SEDRO-WOOLLEY 0
The Mariners stayed how, this time by beating the Cubs 25-16, 25-15 and 25-13 on the road.
Sophomore outside hitter Hayden Niewiadomski led the team with 14 kills and seven digs, but it was an entire team effort as freshman outside hitter Paige Flory, junior Maddie Behrends, and junior setter Emmy Lee also each contributed three kills.
Lee also led the service brigade with her eight aces. Senior Ava Lehn had four aces, while sophomore Anya Winter finished with three and senior Molly Burfeind had two.
BELLINGHAM 3, ANACORTES 1
The Bayhawks edged the Seahawks 25-22 in the first set, and Anacortes took Bellingham to the limit to win 27-25 in the second set, but the Bayhawks won the next two 25-17 and 25-22 to come away with the victory.
Senior Chayse Flick-Williams led her team with 15 digs and five aces to go along with her 12 kills. Sophomore Mary Lockhart also had 12 kills, seven digs, one ace and one block.
Senior Catherine Chen had seven kills, 10 digs, as well as a pair of blocks and aces, while senior setter Meysha Riviere dished out 37 assists.
LYNDEN 3, LAKE STEVENS 1
After taking 4A Curtis to five sets over the weekend, the Lions got a huge win over the Vikings on Monday.
Lynden won the first two sets, 25-19 and 25-23, and Lake Stevens won the third set 25-16 to stay alive, but the Lions closed it out by winning the fourth set 25-16.
The senior-laden Lions got huge contributions all around as Ashley Shumate led with 18 kills to go with her 13 digs. Grace Rice gave out 32 assists while blocking two, Mya VanderYacht dug out 24, Haylee Koetje had seven kills and 11 assists and Rian Stephan had nine kills, two digs and a block.
