In the most anticipated match of the Northwest Conference season, the Lions beat the Tigers 25-18, 25-21 and 25-15 in front of a huge home crowd.
Senior setter Grace Rice gave out 28 assists while also picking up 11 digs. Senior Ashley Shumate had a big night as well with 11 kills, 14 digs and five aces, and sophomore Rian Stephan had six kills, while hitting .333
Senior Mya VanderYacht had 12 digs and four aces, senior Haylee Koetje contributed seven kills, seven digs and five aces, and senior Kasi Thomas added seven digs.
LYNDEN CHRISTIAN 3, OAK HARBOR 2
The Lyncs hung in there on the road to defeat the Wildcat in five sets.
Junior Malia Johnson led up front with 20 kills to go with her six digs, and sophomore setter Ella Fritts had 21 assists and two blocks.
LC also totaled 14 aces, and was led by freshman Lyla Parriera who had five.
“This was our best team effort so far this season,” Lyncs coach Kristy Van Egdom said. “The girls battled every point and never gave up on each other. They were mindful and had a great next-ball mentality.”
SEHOME 3, ANACORTES 1
After winning the first two sets 25-20 and 25-22, the Mariners dropped the fourth set to the Seahawks 25-14 before ending the match with a 25-17 win in the fourth set.
Sophomore Hayden Niewiadomski led up front with 15 kills and two blocks, while also picking up seven digs. She was joined up front by junior Leah Lockwood who totaled 10 kills and two blocks.
Junior Emmy Lee had 36 assists, seven digs and three aces. Sophomore Makenna Andrews had a team-high four aces to go with her 11 digs, and senior Molly Burfeind had 21 digs and two aces.
FERNDALE 3, MOUNT VERNON 0
The Golden Eagles put forth another great effort at home, this time by defeating the Bulldogs in three straight sets.
Senior Tia Gilday led with 15 kills, while junior Amelie McKeon had six kills and 3.5 blocks.
Senior Mallory Butenschoen had six kills and nine digs, sophomore Katrina Ferry had team-highs with 14 digs and six aces and freshman Brooklyn Larrabee dished out 38 assists to go with her 11 digs, two aces, two kills and one block.
LAKEWOOD 3, BELLINGHAM 1
It was senior night for the Bayhawks, who stretched the match to an extra set, but were ultimately defeated by the Cougars.
Senior setter Meysha Riviere had 34 assists and three digs, and sophomore Lily Jude had a season-high 12 kills to go with two aces and a block.
Sophomore Mary Lockhart was strong at the net with six kills and four blocks, while sophomore Jayda Knutsen had eight kills and six digs and senior Catherine Chen finished with six kills, three digs and an ace.
