Lynden 4, Clarkston 1
In a picther’s duel that only saw six total hits between the two teams, the Lions did the most with their baserunners to collect the win in their opener. Leadoff hitter Kael Stapleton was hit by a pitch to begin the game and eventually scored after he stole second base and then came around on an error. Lane Simonsen then drove in Cooper Moore from third base on a groundout, moments after Moore tripled to center field. Lynden scored twice more in the seventh inning on an error and a sacrifice fly. Sophomore Spencer Adams picked up his first varsity victory after striking out three batters in three innings of work.

Meridian 17, Granite Falls 7
The Trojans scored eight runs in the top of third without collecting a hit to take an 8-1 lead, and went on to win their third straight to open the season. Meridian showed patience by walking 14 times. Freshmen Nate Payne and Pierce Brzozowski each had two hits, while Payne and senior Ian Forbes each scored three runs. Junior center fielder Jonah Aase knocked in three runs and also walked three times. Forbes struck out four batters on the mound and got the win.

Talan Bungard’s single up the middle scored Rand Dobbins from second base in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Golden Eagles walked off the Storm. Squalicum jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the top of the third inning when back to back doubles by Josh Kreta and Hudson Johnson resulted in three runs. Ferndale tied it up in the bottom of the sixth when a bases loaded double by Colton Stenvers scored Mathew Hippner and Carson Brown, and Dobbins scored on a wild pitch during the next at bat. Both starters pitched well with Ben Hebert striking out nine batters over five innings for Squalicum and sophomore Nolan Boleak striking out six batters in his varsity debut.

The Bayhawks took advantage of seven Mountaineer errors to score six unearned runs and ultimately pick up the road win. Senior Owen Rasmussen gave up just one hit and struck out seven batters to pick up the win, and senior Jesse Harward pitched the final three innings and struck out four. Kai Nelson and Erik Helfield each racked up four hits and three runs batted in. Nelson had two doubles and Helfield stole two bases. Harward also collected three hits against his former teammates. Magnus Melland walked three times and stole a base for Mount Baker.

The Lion bats came alive in the second game of a double header as Lynden scored seven runs over the first two innings. Sophomore third baseman Matthew Carroll led the offensive attack with a triple, two singles and four runs batted in. The Lions also got a pair of hits from seniors Cooper Moore and Kael Stapleton. Senior pitcher Lane Simonsen allowed just two hits and struck out four to pick up his first win of the season.
