Overlake/Bear Creek 3, Meridian 2

The magic ran out for the Trojans as the eighth-seeded Growls captured the 1A State Championship in walk-off fashion. Senior third baseman Silas Berschauer scored on a fielder’s choice in the top of the fourth inning to tie the game at 1-1, and junior right fielder Tristan Wang scored on a wild pitch in the top of the sixth inning on a wild pitch to tie the score at 2-2. Freshman pitcher Nate Payne went six innings on the mound, and struck out six batters while allowing just five hits. Junior centerfielder Jonah Aase had two hits for the Trojans, while Berschauer and freshman first baseman Landon Rowley each doubled. Meridian finished its season with a record of 19-8.

Lynden 2, Anacortes 1

In the regular season it was the Lions that won by one run. In the district championship it was the Seahawks that won by one run. This time, for third place in the 2A State Tournament, runs were tough to come by, but Lynden bested Anacortes by a single run. Senior pitcher Kael Stapleton scattered six hits over his complete game, and struck out four batters, on his way to his Whatcom County-leading eighth victory of the season. Sophomore first baseman Spencer Adams scored the first run of the game on an error, and sophomore Matthew Carroll scored the second run of the game off a single from senior River Langstraat. The Seahawks’ lone run came in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Lions finished their season with a record of 22-6.
