Calloway

The Chargers came back from being down seven points in the fourth quarter to force overtime, and ultimately pick up the win on the road.

Storm senior Marcus Nixon banked in a three-point shot at the buzzer that would have sent the game into a second overtime, but he was a split second late on releasing the ball.

Sophomore point guard Hunter Calloway led Squalicum with 17 points and six assists while making three of his four 3-point shot attempts.

Nixon had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds to go along with his six assists, and junior forward Laki Fagaautua came off the bench to score 13 points and rip down nine boards.

Senior forward Ezra Nichols and sophomore guard Blake Elston each finished with six points.

Bailey

The long distance connection still had strong service on the island as the Mountaineers splashed home 10 three-pointers on the way to their third straight win to start the season.

Junior point guard Jordan Bailey dazzled the crowd with 18 points, seven assists and four steals, which led Mount Baker in each category.

Junior guard Carter Hill added 16 points, while hitting four deep balls, and senior forward Luke Smith wrangled home 10 points.

Senior forwards Darius Gilstrap and Chris Armbright pulled down seven rebounds each to lead the Mountaineers.

Despite a small setback in the second quarter, the Lyncs still took care of business by defeating the 4A Vikings at home.

Senior guard Gannon Dykstra neared a triple-double with 24 points, nine rebounds and eight assists to lead Lynden Christian to victory, and sophomore guard Gunnar Dykstra added 17 points, as he hit 4-of-9 shots from the three-point line.

Senior forward Luke VanKooten and junior guard Boyce Robertson scored 12 points each, and sophomore forward Kaden Veldman had nine points and nine rebounds.

VanHouten

The Bayhawks had to wait the longest out of all the Whatcom County teams to get on the hardwood, and they erupted for 25 points in the first quarter on the way to a road win.

6-foot-6 senior Kincade VanHooten scored nine of his 20 points in the opening period to help Bellingham jump out to the early advantage. Just as VanHouten started the game, Joe Harward closed it out. The junior forward went off for 18 of his team’s 20 points in the final period, and finished with a team-high 28 points.

Senior shooters Fabian Singh and Gabe VanHofwegen combined for 14 points, all of which came in the first half, and nine of them coming from downtown.

Edwards

Sophomore guard Dyson Edwards had the hot hand, and junior guard Jerome Toby ripped off a double-double as the Blackhawks grabbed their second straight home win to begin the season.

Edwards led Lummi Nation with 22 points on 9-of-15 shooting, which included three straight long range bombs that spanned less than a minute in the third quarter which really got the hometown crowd fired up.

Toby finished with 18 points, 12 assists, six steals and four rebounds as his complete game helped balance out his team.

Sophomore guard Landon LaFontaine came off the bench to score eight points, and sophomore center Deandre James came off the bench and hustled his way to a team-high eight rebounds and four steals.

Wright

Junior point guard Nolan Wright knocked down two free throws with five seconds left to bring the Mariners within one point, but the Thunder countered by hitting their free throws to finalize the win for the Canadian team.

Spectrum Community used its size advantage to jump ahead early, and eventually pull out the win.

Wright led Sehome with 23 points and four steals, and the smaller Mariners were able to connect on 7-of-18 shots from downtown.

Junior forward Xavier Kelley added 12 points and five rebounds, while junior Klay Jackson and sophomore Quincy Tanovan each had five points while knocking down a pair of threes.
