Points were hard to come by for both teams midway through the first quarter, as the Red Wolves held a 4-0 lead. The Lions tied the score 4-4 with a little over three minutes left in the first quarter and it was off to races from there.

By the time the quarter concluded, Lynden held a five-point lead. A 17-point second quarter for the Lions was powered by a 9-0 run by senior guard Anthony Canales.

The Canales show continued into the second half as he scored the first eight points of the third quarter for Lynden.

The mighty Lion defense kept Cedarcrest out of comeback contention and the Red Wolves would trail by double digits during the entirety of the second half. Lynden’s biggest lead was the 21-point advantage they ended the game with, giving them the district title and a berth into the regional round of the state tournament.

Canales’ nine and eight-point runs were just over half of the 33 points he scored on the night to lead his team offensively. Senior guard Charlie Ayres contributed nine points, and junior forward Brant Heppner had eight.
