The gymnasium at Lynden Christian High School was packed before the JV game had even concluded, and the energy from a close JV game carried into the varsity game.

The Lions scored the game’s first basket and took the momentum early, holding a six-point advantage after the first quarter. Defense dominated the second quarter as both teams had their lowest-scoring quarters. Lynden maintained a 33-22 lead as they headed into the locker room for halftime.

The Lyncs had their best quarter in the third as they outscored the Lions, 19-16 to close the scoring gap to within five points.

In the game’s final minutes, Lynden senior guard Anthony Canales put on a show for the sold-out crowd at the LC gym. Canales, who scored more than half of the Lion’s points, scored all of Lynden’s final 11 points to put the game away and send the Lion fans home happy.

Canales’ 11-point run in the final quarter was just a fraction of the 32 points he scored on the night to lead his team in scoring. Senior guard Charlie Ayres scored nine points off three shots from beyond the arc, and junior forward Brant Heppner added seven points.

LC junior guard Gannon Dykstra had his team’s highest score total with 23 points. Senior forward Jeremiah Wright had 14 points, and senior guard Dawson Bouma had 11 points.

The Golden Eagles shot the ball well, and scored 25 points in the second quarter, but it wasn’t enough as the high-octane offense of the Seahawks went into full effect in the third quarter as it put up 34 points in the period before reaching the century mark for the second time this season.

Sophomore forward Mantaj Singh led Ferndale with 20 points, and junior forward Jonah Brillowsky scored 12 points.

Senior Bishop Ootsey finished with nine points, and junior guard Lincoln Thomas added eight points.
