The Pioneers used a 12-2 run in the second quarter to help them pull out the home win in the first game of the season.

Heutink

Senior Caden Heutink flirted with a triple-double as the point guard finished with 16 points, nine rebounds and seven assists, all of which were team-highs. He also made eight of his nine field goal attempts inside the three point line.

Nooksack Valley shot 50% from the field as a team, despite just hitting one of its 14 attempts from long range.

Senior guard Cory Olney scored 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting, while also picking up four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Senior center Brady Ackerman muscled his way to 14 points and six rebounds, and he shot a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor, and 4-for-4 from the line.

Junior guard Cole Coppinger led defensively with four steals.

Junior forward Mantaj Singh scored 13 of his 19 points in the first half, but the Mustangs were just a touch better than the Golden Eagles.

Senior forwards Jonah Brillowsky and Hunter Wills also scored in double digits as Brillowsky finished with 13 points and Wills added 11. The three Ferndale big men also combined to shoot 87.5% from the foul line, 14-of-16.

Guards Lincoln Thomas and Raj Grewal combined for seven points, all of which were scored in the second half.
