SEHOME 3, LYNDEN 1

Niewiadomski

The Mariners kept their season alive by defeating the Lions for the first time in eight years.

Sehome won the first set 25-21, and Lynden came back extremely strong to take the second set 25-15. Long rallies dominated the third set with the Mariners squeaking out a 25-23 win before taking the fourth set 25-20.

Junior outside hitter Hayden Niewiadomski led the offensive attack with 22 kills, while also picking up 12 digs, as she was set up all night by senior Emmy Lee who finished with 36 assists.

I. Stephan

Senior Leah Lockwood patrolled the middle with 11 kills and 4.5 blocks, while junior Makenna Andrews led with 14 digs. Junior Bridgette Adams and sophomore Paige Flory combined for five aces and 24 digs.

Lynden was once again led by sophomore Finley Parcher who finished with 17 kills and 18 digs, and junior Rian Stephan who had nine kills, 11 digs and four aces.

Freshman setter Izzie Stephan handed out 27 assists, and junior libero Campbell DeJong flew around to capture 23 digs.

The Mariners will face Archbishop Murphy at 1:00 on Saturday at Meridian High School in a winner-to-state/loser-out match. The season for the Lions came to a close with the loss.

 

MERIDIAN 3, NOOKSACK VALLEY 1

Pap

The Trojans avenged a loss from earlier in the season to the Pioneers by defeating them in a loser-out contest in the district tournament.

Meridian won the first set 25-19, but Nooksack Valley came back to win the second set 25-18. The final two sets were incredibly close with the Trojans coming out on top 25-21 and 25-23.

The extreme efficiency of junior Gracie Pap helped lead Meridian to victory as she had 12 kills with an amazing .733 hitting percentage. The Trojan offense was also carried by freshman Melanie Short who had 18 kills and sophomore Eden Bernardy and her 12 kills.

Juergens

Senior setter Grace Wells dished out 41 assists, and Short led Meridian with five aces, as well as 18 digs. Senior Rylan Bernardy added 16 digs.

The Pioneers were led by the powerful duo of junior Grace DeHoog and sophomore Elizabeth DeLange. DeHoog hammered 14 kills, and DeLange finished with 13 kills, as well as a pair of blocks.

Junior Payton Bartl had 28 assists, and junior Avery Juergens led her team with 15 digs.

The Trojans will face either Bear Creek or Eastside Prep at 3:00 on Saturday at Cedar Park Christian in a winner-to-state/loser-out match. The season for the Pioneers came to a close with the loss.

 

FERNDALE 3, MEADOWDALE 0

Baydak

The Golden Eagles defeated the Mavericks 25-16, 25-20 and 25-15 at home in the play-in round of the district tournament.

It was an offensive explosion for Ferndale as sophomore Svetlana Baydak finished with 14 kills, and senior Lay Williams added 10 kills of her own.

Sophomore setter Brooklyn Larrabee ran the offense with 33 assists to go along with four kills of her own.

Senior Gabby Lenssen added three aces, and junior Katrina Ferry finished with a team-high 11 digs.
