Ferndale 21, Anacortes 17
In a game that featured 38 runs and 35 hits, it was a defensive play that should be long remembered from this game. In the bottom of the seventh inning, with the game tied at 17-17, the Seahawks had the game-winning run on second base with one out. The Anacortes batter then drove a line drive to right-center, and the ball was quickly fielded by Madeline Slevin who fired it into Mallory Butenschoen as the Seahawk runner was already past third base and looking to end the game. Butenschoen spun and threw a strike to catcher Kaelin Blakley to nail the runner out at the plate. It rejuvenated the Golden Eagles as the next batter struck out to end the inning, and Ferndale would score four unanswered in the top of the eighth. Blakley doubled and homered to help power the offense, which also got five runs scored and four stolen bases from Kate Johnston and six runs batted in from Jaycena Lajuan. Butenschoen threw 156 pitchers and struck out 10 batters to pick up her sixth victory of the season.
