Hoquiam 3, Blaine 2
The Borderites scored a run in each of the final two innings, but ran out of time as they lost their first game of the season to the Grizzlies. Junior catcher Shaylie Daniels went 3-for-3 with a double and a walk to lead the Blaine offense, which also got a pair of hits from senior Millie Berkeley and sophomore Aailyah Bowman. Senior pitcher Emersyn Bakker struck out seven batters in her complete game effort.

Meridian 8, Tenino 2
The Trojans punished the ball all over the field as they scored six runs in the first two innings, and held on to capture the victory. Leading the offensive attack was junior Lorelai Margeson who finished with four hits and two runs batted in, and senior Katie Prengaman who had three hits, including two doubles, and she scored two runs. Sydney TenKley also tripled in the game, and Prengaman struck out seven batters on her way to pick up her fifth win of the season.

Mount Baker 11, Elma 8
The Mountaineers led 1-0 after a first-inning homerun by junior catcher Gracie Zender, but the Eagles took a 3-1 lead, which Baker then tied up in the second. Elma proceeded to take a 6-3 lead, which the Mounties tied up in the bottom of the third. Mount Baker’s offense continued to power through as the Eagle offense was slowing down, and the Mountaineers pulled out the victory. Senior Ava Jeretzky blasted two homeruns before being intentionally walked later in the game. Freshman Kara Welters pitched the final four-plus innings of the game to pick up her first varsity win in relief.

Freeman 7, Nooksack Valley 1
Halle Benner doubled, walked and stole a base, and Kestyn Wagter drove her in, but there wasn’t much more offense to speak of as the Pioneers were defeated. Catcher Alayna Dykstra also had a hit, a stolen base and reached on a walk, for Nooksack Valley. Wagter also pitched well in relief, as she struck out six batters in the three innings.

Lynden Christian 16, Columbia (White Salmon) 1
Junior pitcher Kassidy VanSoest struck out seven batters and allowed just five hits as she picked up her fifth win of the season. She also led offensively with three hits, and two runs batted in. The Lyncs also got three hits from senior Taryn Bos, as well as doubles from freshman Taya Vander Kooi and sophomore Taylor Craig and a triple from senior Addie DeJong.

Granite Falls 28, Bellingham 16
The Bayhawks enjoyed their biggest offensive explosion in years, but couldn’t find a way to quiet the bats of the Tigers. Bellingham got homeruns from A.J. Occhipinti and Angelina Bellefeuille, while also getting a pair of hits from Sammy Stormo, Bronwyn Justin and Emma Johnson. All nine players in the starting lineup for the Bayawks reached base and came around to score.

The Bayhawk bats quieted down in game two of the double header, and the Tigers started out by scoring 17 runs in the first inning. A.J. Occhipinti’s double was the lone hit for Bellingham, while Emma Johnsonn struck out two batters in her two innings of work in the circle.

Montesano 9, Blaine 1
Borderite junior Shaylie Daniels tripled, and sophomore Aaliyah Bowman doubled, but the offense as a whole couldn’t keep up with the defending 1A state champion Bulldogs. Daniels started the game in the circle and was relieved halfway through the third inning by senior Emersyn Bakker who proceeded to strike out nine batters.

Columbia (White Salmon) 9, Meridian 3
The Bruins came out of the gate fast, as they scored four runs in the first inning, and their other five runs before the end of the fourth inning. It was too much for the Trojans to overcome as they were only able to manage five hits. Junior Maddy Ritter had two of the hits, and she also scored one of the runs. Senior Katie Prengaman struck out 10 batters in the circle.

Mount Baker 4, Royal 1
Senior pitcher Ava Jeretzky powered through all seven innings and became the first player in Whatcom County to reach double-digit wins this season. She held last year’s 1A state runner-ups to just four hits while striking out six batters. Junior Gracie Zender hit a homerun in the fourth inning to tie the game, while Zaida Haynes, Kara Welters and Lauren Valum each had an RBI hit in the following inning to add to the Mountaineer lead.

College Place 12, Nooksack Valley 3
The Pioneers were down just 3-1 after two innings of play, but the Hawks brought home seven runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a big lead. Gracie Rutgers led Nooksack Valley offensively with two hits, a walk and a run scored, and she was aided by Lainey Kimball, Shelby Mason, Kestyn Wagter, Reagan Burke and Halle Benner who each had a hit.

Lynden Christian 10, Tenino 0
The Lyncs made quick work out of the Beavers as junior pitcher Kassidy VanSoest spun her second gem of the day by striking out nine and twirling a four-hit shutout. Sophomore left fielder Hannah Terpstra also hit her first varsity homerun, while freshman shortstop Taya Vander Kooi scored three runs and VanSoest knocked in three runs.
