Nooksack Valley junior Alayna Dykstra belted a triple in the top of the fourth.

Nooksack Valley 10, Meridian 6

The Trojans batted around in the first inning, and scored five runs to but that would be the majority of their total offense as the Pioneers battled back each inning. Kenzie Likkel led off the top of the fourth inning with a homerun to cut Meridian’s lead in half, 6-3. Grace DeHoog followed up with a double and a single by Payton Bartl scored DeHoog. Alayna Dykstra smacked a triple down the left field line two batters later to score Bartl, and Dykstra then scored on a single from Kestyn Wagter. Just like that, it was a tie game. Bartl battled early control issues in the circle and eventually didn’t allow a run in the final five innings of the game. Wagter and Bartl each drove in three runs to help Nooksack Valley tack on to the lead, and eventually win the game. The Pioneers will now face Mount Baker on Thursday at Janicki Fields in Sedro-Woolley in the first round of the district tournament. The loss ended the season for the Trojans who finished with an 8-13 record.
