The Mariners knew coming into this game that they would have to play great, and that it could be the final game of the season.

The Tigers defeated Sehome in the regular season by 21 points, but a huge first quarter by the Mariners erased any thoughts of their previous matchup. Sehome led 18-7 after one quarter of play, which ended on a steal by senior Madi Cooper who quickly sent an outlet pass down the court to senior Emmy Hart for a layup.

The Mariner defense stayed incredibly strong in the second quarter, as it held Burlington-Edison to just eight points, and Sehome led 28-15 at the half.

Despite tight defense all game from Tiger junior Claire Bishop, Cooper found numerous ways to make shots, including five in a row at one point. She finished with a game-high 20 points while also picking up four rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Hart was 5-for-10 from the floor, and she totaled 15 points and five assists. Both seniors played the entire game.

Despite two early fouls, senior forward Natalie Brewer came back strong in the second half and had 11 points and six rebounds. Her footwork under the basket allowed her to score against taller opponents, and her 3-pointer in the fourth quarter helped diminish any thoughts of a Tiger comeback.

Sehome, which also shot 10-for-10 from the foul line, will face Archbishop Murphy at Mount Vernon High School on Saturday at 5:30 for a spot in the 2A state tournament.
