The Borderites celebrate moments after their big win over Ferndale.
  • Blaine 47, Ferndale 43

The Borderites got off to a strong start, and led the Golden Eagles 12-9 after one quarter of play. Blaine was able to stay the course throughout the game and pick up the huge home victory.

A three-point play by Ferndale senior Mallory Butenschoen tied the score at 43-43 with 3:08 left in the game.

Multiple empty possessions by both teams followed, but with 1:39 left, Borderite senior Millie Berkeley added a free throw to give Blaine the lead, and that was followed up by another free throw made by Deja Dube with 40 seconds left.

A traveling violation by the Golden Eagles gave the ball back to the Borderites, and Dube made another free throw to give Blaine a 3-point lead with 24 seconds left.

A Ferndale 3-point shot rimmed out, and was rebounded by Borderite freshman forward Teia Dube, who was immediately fouled and sent to the line. She made one of her two shots to put the lead out of reach of the Golden Eagles.

Blaine was led by senior forward Jordyn Vezzetti who finished with 13 points, and Teia Dube who had 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Ferndale sophomore Jillea Fox led her team with 12 points and seven rebounds.

  • Lynden 73, Mount Vernon 23

The Lion defense did its usual swarming, and it held the Bulldogs to 24% shooting, and it forced 20 turnovers as Lynden picked up the road victory.

Freshman guard Finley Parcher shot 6-of-7 from the floor, and led Lynden with 15 points, and sophomore forward Payton Mills added 13 points and seven rebounds.

Senior Kiki York scored 11 points, and senior Haylee Koetje contributed with 10 points. Parcher and York each had five assists.

  • Lakewood 71, Mount Baker 55

The Mountaineers rattled off 27 points in the third quarter, but it wasn’t enough as they fell on the road to the Cougars.

Freshman guard Violet Fox notched the county’s first triple double of the season with 10 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists.

Sophomore guard Natalie VanLiew scored a game-high 24 points, and junior forward Faith Wilson added 13 points, six rebounds, five steals and four assists.
