During the first quarter of play, the Lyncs kept the Lions on their toes but Lynden was out in front 17-10 when the quarter finished. It was another close quarter in the second as the Lions only outscored the Lyncs by two and maintained their lead.

Coming out of the half, Lynden put on a defensive master class as they held the Lyncs to only 13 points in the second half.

Lynden scored the first eight points of the half in less than three minutes to take a commanding lead. They had doubled Lynden Christian’s scoring efforts by the time the final buzzer went off.

For the Lions, freshman guard Finley Parcher led the way with 19 points, and sophomore forward Payton Mills had 11 points. Senior guards Mallary Villars and Haylee Koetje each had nine points.

The Lyncs were led in scoring by junior forward Allison Shumate with 10 points. Sophomore guard Ella Fritts contributed nine points.

It looked like it might be a blowout early, as the Golden Eagles flew out to a 19-5 lead after one quarter.

But, the Seahawk defense took control in the second quarter and cut the Ferndale lead to 23-16 by halftime.

Anacortes staged a comeback late in the game, but it wasn’t enough as the Golden Eagles captured the home win.

Senior guard Naomi Stanley led Ferndale with 11 points, which went with her five rebounds and four steals. Senior forward Mallory Butenschoen finished with nine points and eight rebounds, and sophomore guard Kayla Washington added nine points and three boards.
